Gegard Mousasi: Coming To America

Nate DoubleAnalyst IMay 26, 2009

After the conclusion of the Dream 9 Super Hulk Event Gegard Mousasi confirmed that he will compete at Affliction MMA's third event on Aug. 1.

His opponent is none other than recently reinvigorated, former UFC champion Vitor Belfort.

A weight class for the fight has not yet been announced as Mousasi has fought primarily as a middleweight but most recently fought at over 218 pounds for the Dream 9 event.

Belfort last fought at middleweight at Affliction's Day of Reckoning.

Update:  Belfort made an announcement that contracts for this fight haven't been signed yet and he is only interested in fighting Mousasi at 185 lbs.  Belfort continues by stating that Mousasi isn't a "name" or a "challenge at 205" but he wants to fight Mousasi at the weight he held his Dream title at.

This is a great fight that would vastly improve Affliction's third card.  If the fight can't happen at 185 I hope they can come to some middle ground, maybe a catch weight of 195 like Franklin and Wanderlei.
