Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that he only found out Eden Hazard had left the country because he spotted the Belgium international on television at the Lille vs. Monaco game in Ligue 1.

Hazard was a surprise absentee from Chelsea’s Champions League win over Schalke this week. After the game, Mourinho revealed to Sky Sports that Hazard had been dropped for missing training on Monday.

It emerged that Hazard had returned late from a trip to France, which resulted in Mourinho wielding the axe.

Mourinho wants to draw a line under the affair and has confirmed, per Sky Sports, Hazard will be involved when Chelsea face West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.

But the Portuguese was pressed on the matter in his press conference ahead of the West Brom game and it has emerged that Hazard had left the country without informing his club.

The Star’s David Woods has the quotes from Mourinho:

He didn't tell me.

I found out when I saw him on TV, when they kicked off and he was waving!

When you have a game two days later you don't leave your home unless you really need to do it for special family reasons.

To go to see friends at a game is not a reason to leave that rest period.

Hazard will be involved against West Brom, but he may need to make a trip to the passport office as Mourinho revealed the player was delayed in his return on account of misplacing his documents.

The Mail has the quotes:

He has reacted well because he apologised to me and to the club.

Of course the apology wasn't accepted because it was something I couldn't accept, but it's over.

He is ready to play and has appetite to play. I'm happy he is back.

He is a very good kid. He went to a foreign country when he shouldn't have gone - and on top of that he lost his passport.
