The Miami Heat were able to outlast the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night, but reigning MVP LeBron James wasn't able to escape fully unscathed.
James, per Bleacher Report's Ethan Skolnick, said after the game that he felt his back lock up sometime during the contest:
LeBron says he felt great to start the game, but his lower back locked up after a dive.— Ethan J. Skolnick (@EthanJSkolnick) November 8, 2013
He also told CNN's Rachel Nichols it's something that has been bothering him for a while:
LeBron says his back issues have been going on for "a couple weeks," but the only way it'd keep him off the court is if he can't get out bed— Rachel Nichols (@Rachel__Nichols) November 8, 2013
It doesn't sound like this is anything overly serious, but it's certainly worth keeping a close eye on. This is the first time James has mentioned the injury, so perhaps it worsened to a new level on Thursday night.
Either way, Heat fans will be holding their collective breath.
James, who entered Thursday averaging 25.6 points on 58.0 percent shooting, 5.6 rebounds and 8.0 assists, is a four-time MVP and the two-time defending Finals MVP.
As the best player in the NBA, he is obviously irreplaceable for the defending champs.
