The Oakland Raiders arrive in New Jersey on a 1-10 straight-up (SU) road slide dating back to last season and fresh off a humiliating home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants, a team that somehow manages to be nine-point favorites despite its horrible record, have covered four in a row as home favorites.

Point spread: The Giants opened as seven-point favorites; the total was 43 (line updates and matchup report).

OddsShark.com computer prediction: 14.4-11.0 Raiders

Why the Raiders can cover the spread

If you believe in trap games, this would qualify as one. While the Raiders are traveling across the country after being shellacked by the Eagles, 49-20, the Giants are prepared to host Oakland after they enjoyed a bye week. If the Giants come in overconfident for this one, Oakland might shock them.

Why the Giants can cover the spread

We've seen this before with the Giants, where they tank early on in the season and get things together late in the year to make a run. They've now won two straight games and do in fact come in after a bye week and will be well rested.

They can easily cover a generous spread here (as they have done in four recent games as home chalk) but could just as easily falter.

Smart Pick

The fact is that the Raiders were just humiliated at home and now have to travel to play on the East Coast. They also come in a bit banged up and in somewhat of a downward spiral. The Giants should be fired up to get back on the field. The right side is the home chalk here; there is no trap.

Trends

Oakland is 4-13 SU in its last 17 games.

The Raiders are 1-10 SU on the road since the 2012 season.

The Giants are 4-0 against the spread in their past four games as home favorites.
