Boston Celtics forward Gerald Wallace left Monday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a bruised right knee and will not return.

The Celtics' official Twitter reported on the matter:

New head coach Brad Stevens already has a modest rotation to work with in his maiden season at the helm, and while this looks to be only a minor setback, losing Wallace isn't ideal.

Boston was 0-3 before Monday's road trip to Memphis' FedExForum. Even though Wallace has scored as many as 19.4 points per game in the 2007-08 season, he did not take a single shot in 28 minutes of action before exiting.

Wallace also generated some early season controversy by accusing teammates of padding stats after the Celtics blew a 22-point lead in a 105-98 loss to Milwaukee in Friday's home opener.

Although he may have a point, perhaps Wallace should assert himself more on the offensive end if this team is going to remain competitive in the midst of a perceived rebuilding year.
