Week 8 saw wide receiver Marvin Jones burst onto the fantasy scene with four touchdowns, Calvin Johnson win quite a few matchups for owners with a 329-yard performance, and quarterbacks like Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick reward patient owners with huge games.
So what sort of fun awaits in Week 9?
After Thursday Night Football, owners of A.J. Green (11 receptions for 128 yards), Giovani Bernard (104 yards from scrimmage, two touchdowns and arguably the play of the season) the Miami Dolphins defense (four turnovers, a Brent Grimes touchdown and a safety) and Lamar Miller (16 rushes for 105 yards) were off to an excellent start this week.
Andy Dalton owners (four turnovers, no touchdowns, just six fantasy points in standard-scoring leagues) weren't so lucky.
Fantasy lineups will be a bit weaker than usual this week, with six teams on bye and fantasy mainstays such as Megatron, Matt Stafford, Reggie Bush, Peyton Manning, Knowshon Moreno, Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, Eric Decker, Julius Thomas, Victor Cruz, Larry Fitzgerald, Frank Gore, Colin Kaepernick, Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin all unavailable.
This week, owners will pray that disappointments thus far can return to fantasy prominence.
Will Ray Rice—who has reached double-digit fantasy points just twice—end his slump against the Cleveland Browns? Can C.J. Spiller manage a big play or two against the Kansas City Chiefs? Will Tom Brady look like a QB1 once again against the Pittsburgh Steelers? Will Robert Griffin III light up fantasy boards with a tasty matchup against the San Diego Chargers?
If these players post big weeks, fantasy owners that stuck with them and started them during the tough bye week will be ecstatic. If they don't, don't be surprised when a few of them are traded for pennies on the dollar.
Make sure those lineups are set, flip over to NFL RedZone and get ready to anxiously glance down at your lineup every minute or so—it's time for fantasy Sunday.
