Jack Wilshere has been pronounced unfit to play in Arsenal's Saturday evening fixture against fellow contenders for the Premier League top spot, Liverpool.

That's according to Wayne Veysey of Goal.com, who claims it's the midfielder's ongoing ankle issues that pose a problem and he will be rested in an attempt to stop the woes worsening.

Veysey backed up his report on Twitter:

Wilshere hasn't missed a minute of the Gunners' Premier League campaign this season and has managed his most active start to a league campaign, already racking up more than 600 minutes—an average of 67 minutes per game.

It's no secret that the Arsenal Academy graduate has gone through injury troubles in the past, missing the entire 2011/12 campaign and at times struggling to maintain fitness in the early years of his senior career.

Wilshere only played 22 minutes in his side's last outing against Crystal Palace and has found the rising form of Aaron Ramsey, along with the arrival of Mesut Ozil, to be a slight threat to his playing time, as has Santi Cazorla.

That being said, the 21-year-old did play a full 90 minutes as part of a makeshift Arsenal team that would eventually go on to lose its Capital One Cup encounter with Chelsea in midweek.

In any case, Liverpool will certainly not be complaining about the midfielder's supposed omission in an area of the pitch where the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Lucas will now seek to dominate more easily.

Bleacher Report will be bringing updates of Wilshere's injury as news becomes available.
