LeBron James is 28 years old and in the prime of his basketball career. The 36-year-old Paul Pierce might have left his best years behind him, but that doesn't mean he'll back down from the challenge of defending King James.
And on Friday, it was Pierce who made LeBron look ready for the rocking chair with this clean block. It's odd to see anyone elevate over James, let alone a guy entering his 16th NBA season.
Pierce's Nets were the better team throughout most of the game, until LeBron's Heat pulled to within a single possession in the final minute with a late 10-0 run. Both players figured centrally in that final minute: LeBron hit a clutch corner three-pointer, and Pierce sank a pair of cold-blooded free throws to keep the Nets ahead as they claimed the 101-100 win.
