The San Antonio Spurs rode into Staples Center on Friday night to play the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers were seeking vengeance after getting swept from the playoffs by the Spurs in April, and they clung to a one-point lead at halftime. But they could not quite keep up with the Spurs down the stretch and San Antonio emerged with a hard-fought road win 91-85.
It was the first game between these two teams since 1996 in which Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan did not play. Tony Parker did not miss him as he dropped a game-high 24 points on 12-of-18 shooting. Pau Gasol tallied 20 points and 11 boards to lead the Lake Show, but the bench mob did not have enough firepower to win this duel.
