Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov has seen the charges against him dropped, according to the Denver Post:

A Denver judge has dismissed a domestic violence case against Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov at the request of prosecutors who said they could not prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Varlamov, 25, was charged in October with felony kidnapping and assault after Denver police said he drunkenly attacked his girlfriend in their downtown Denver apartment. A judge in November dismissed the kidnapping count for lack of evidence.

The district attorney's office on Friday morning filed a motion to dismiss the remaining misdemeanor assault charge because further investigation led prosecutors to believe they could not prove the case at trial.

"That's not to say we don't believe our victim," district attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said, adding that investigators reinterviewed witnesses whose statements began to shift. "It became clear we didn't have a belief we could prove it beyond a reasonable doubt."
