Playing Andy Reid for a Moment: Fourth-Quarter Comeback Mode

How will Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg use all of the talent on the offensive side of the ball?  Here are some fantasy game drives that make me salivate for football Sunday.

1st and 10 on their own 20| 14: 53 - Q4 | PHI 17 - OPP 24

I-Form NormalPackage: FB Lead Right - RB Westbrook, FB Weaver, TE Celek, WR1: Jackson, WR2: Maclin

Reese: The give is to Westbrook.  The Andrews brothers push the defensive line back a yard and Leonard Weaver clears the hole between tackle and guard.  Weaver takes on the first linebacker to jump the gap.

Westbrook bursts through the hole, getting tripped up after a 3-yard gain and stretches it out for a 5-yard net pick up.

I was holding my breath.  They almost broke that one.

2nd and 5 on their own 25 | 14: 23 - Q4 | PHI 17 - OPP 24

SplitBacks Big Package: PA Misdirection Weak Pitch - RB1: Westbrook, RB2: Weaver, TE Celek, WR1: Baskett, WR2: Ingram

Reese: McNabb gives play action to the strong side, creating misdirection with Weaver.  He tosses the ball on a designed sweep to Westbrook on the weak side.  Westbrook bounces out behind a pair of nice blocks from Hank Baskett and Celek.

Westbrook has space with Andrews out front.  He makes the first man miss and Westbrook is finally just run out of bounds by the strong safety after a 19-yard gain.

1st and 10 on their own 44 | 13: 55 - Q4 | PHI 17 - OPP 24

Split Backs NormalPackage: PA End Around with a Fake Reverse - RB1: Westbrook, RB2: Weaver, TE Celek, WR1: Jackson, WR2: Maclin

Reese: Jackson comes in motion to a tight flanking position on the weak side.  It's a play action dive to Westbrook and Jackson takes an end around with speed.

He looks to reverse the field with Maclin, but he keeps the ball and takes the sideline as he is run out of bounds after a nine-yard gain.

2nd and 1 on the opponents 47 |13:20 - Q4 | PHI 17 - OPP 24

I-Form NormalPackage: PA HB Wheel Right - RB1: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, TE: Celek, WR1: Jackson, WR2: Maclin

Reese: Celek is dragging across the field, and it's a play action FB Dive with Weaver.  The pocket collapses around McNabb quickly.

McNabb looking strong, sheds a linebacker and rolls right, giving direction, he has Westbrook on a check down and Jackson streaking down the sideline in one-on-one coverage.

Donovan heaves that ball on the run a good fifty-five yards down the field to a closely covered DeSean Jackson who made the over-the-shoulder catch as he was going out of bounds after a 43-yard gain deep in enemy territory.

1st and Goal on the opponents 5 yard line | 12:35 - Q4 | PHI 17 - OPP 24

Goal Line NormalPackage: FB Lead Right - RB1: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, WR1: Baskett, TE1: Celek, TE2: Ingram

Reese: Celek is set tight behind the line on the right side and Ingram is tight left.  Baskett is wide and the hand off is to Westbrook who gets about four yards running behind right guard Shawn Andrews.

No signal yet.

2nd and Goal on the opponents 1 yard line | 12:05 - Q4 | PHI 17 - OPP 24

Goal Line Special Jumbo Package: PA - RB1: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, TE1: Peters, TE2: Celek, TE3: Ingram

Reese: Max Jean comes on the field and Baskett goes off.  What is Andy Reid doing here?

Jason Peters is lined up tight off the right side next to the Andrews brothers and Max Jean-Gilles has come in at left guard with Herremans shifting to left tackle.  Peters has been declared eligible.

This is the most imposing look as an offensive front in Eagle history.  McNabb hikes the ball and the give is to Westbrook to the weak side as he... no it's a fake, McNabb rolls right and floats one to the big man Jason Peters for a wide-open touchdown.

The Eagles draw fresh blood here in the fourth.

I think McNabb might have been able to walk that one in.

2 Point Conversion on the opponents 2 yard line | 11:54 - Q4 | PHI 23 - OPP 24

Goal Line NormalPackage: PA Shovel Pass- RB1: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, WR1: Baskett, TE1: Celek, TE2: Ingram

Reese: And the Eagles are going for two.  I'm not sure what they are thinking here.

McNabb drops back into a comfortable pocket, looking to Baskett on a fade, he pulls the ball down.  He has Weaver in the weak flat with the tight ends posted deep in the end zoh... and Donovan.. he shovels the ball forward in the middle of the field to Westbrook who walks into the end zone untouched to complete the conversion.

What composure from veteran quarterback, Donovan McNabb, making it look like he was just running a practice drill.  The Eagles take a one-point lead.

Scenario in fast forward: The opponents make a time-consuming drive starting from their one yard line after a muffed kick off gone wrong  The drive covered 6:45 and ended with a 53-yard field goal.

1st and 10 at their own 20 | 4:51 - Q4 | PHI 25 - OPP 27

Single Back Spread Formation - Maclin Screen - RB1: Westbrook, WR1: Jackson, WR2: Maclin, WR3: Curtis, WR4: Avant

Reese: Maclin and Jackson are spread wide with Curtis and Avant in the slot.  Maclin goes in motion to the strong side of the field.  Trips right… It's a screen pass to Maclin who slips one defender and has Avant blocking.

Maclin crosses the 30, the 35 where he is run out of bounds after a 16-yard gain and the clock stops with 4:39 left in the fourth.

1st and 10 at their own 36| 4:39 - Q4 | PHI 25 - OPP 27

I-Form NormalPackage: PA WR Stretch - RB: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, TE: Celek, WR1: Jackson, WR2: Maclin

Reese: I-Form, Celek to the right, Westbrook in the backfield behind Weaver.  McNabb under center takes the snap.  It's play action.

Westbrook stays in to block and picks up the blitz nicely as Donovan absolutely fires a bullet to Celek on a quick out and Celek drags himself away from the linebacker before he is nailed by the strong safety in bounds, picking up seven.

What a rocket that Celek was able to hang on to... and the clock continues to tick.

2nd and 3 at their own 43 | 4:09 - Q4 | PHI 25 - OPP 27

I-Form Big: FB Lead Right – RB: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, TE: Celek, WR1: Jackson, WR2: Baskett

Reese:  The Eagles need a field goal, but would like to avoid giving the ball back with time on the clock.  Akers looked strong at 45 and 50 yards in warm-ups.

McNabb will have to get his team to the 33-yard line to get within Akers' range.

The Eagles come out in an I-Form set yet again.

The give is to Westbrook who follows Weaver between the right guard and tackle.  Westbrook slips a tackle, running hard.  It’s a foot race as he is tripped up from behind by a brilliant ankle tackle after picking up 15 yards, saving a touchdown.

1st and 10 at the opponents 42 | 3:30 – Q4 | PHI 25 – OPP 27

I-Form Big: WR Quick Slants – RB: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, TE: Celek, WR1: Avant, WR2: Baskett

Reese: Avant and Baskett are spread out wide.  McNabb takes the snap under center.  It’s a quick slant to Baskett who turns up the middle of the field behind the linebackers, shaking tackles and is finally wrestled to the ground by the sideline in bounds after a gain of 12 yards.

Brian Westbrook looks like he is a little shaken up on the play as he is heading to the sideline.

1st and 10 at the opponents 30 | 2:55 – Q4 | PHI 25 – OPP 27

I-Form Big: FB Lead Right – RB: McCoy, FB: Weaver, TE: Celek, WR1: Avant, WR2: Baskett

Reese: In field goal range now.  McNabb takes the snap under center from the ‘I’.  The give is to McCoy who runs right out of his shoe, across the line of scrimmage with great speed where he is stopped after lunging forward to pick up six yards.

That was a very nice piece of running by the rookie, LeSean McCoy.

That will take us to the two minute warning.

2nd and 4 at the opponents 24 | 2:00 – Q4 | PHI 25 – OPP 27

I-Form Big: FB Weak Side Dive – RB: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, TE: Celek, WR1: Jackson, WR2: Baskett

Reese: Westbrook back in.  McNabb takes the snap and gives the up back the ball.  Leonard Weaver runs to the weak side, pushing the pile forward as he is met in the backfield.  He will not be denied at least two yards, maybe more depending on the spot.

The clock will stop for an official measurement.

3rd and 1 at the opponents 21 | 1:35 – Q4 | PHI 25 – OPP 27

I-Form Jumbo: FB Lead Right – RB: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, TE1: Peters, TE2: Celek, TE3: Ingram

Reese: If the Eagles can convert this third and one, they can all but run out the clock and give David Akers a last second field goal opportunity.

Jason Peters is back at tight end with Max Jean at Guard and Todd Herremans at left tackle.

The give is to Westbrook who has the first and more.  Westbrook is at the 15, 10, 5 where he slides to the ground in the middle of the field just before the end zone to keep this clock moving.

What an unselfish act by Westbrook.

1st and Goal at the opponents 2 | 0:55 – Q4 | PHI 25 – OPP 27

Goal Line Jumbo Package: QB Kneel - RB1: Westbrook, FB: Weaver, WR1: Baskett, TE1: Celek, TE2: Ingram

Reese: McNabb takes a knee to run the clock down to four seconds.

2nd and Goal at the opponents 5 | 0:04 – Q4 | PHI 25 – OPP 27

Special Teams Field Goal Unit

Reese: The kick is up and David Akers splits the uprights to complete the Eagles' fourth quarter comeback.  Eagles win, Eagles win.

Final: PHI 28 – OPP 27

That is just too much fun.  I spread the ball around pretty well, but I didn’t get Avant or Curtis the ball.  I’m happy with the win anyway.
