The idea of a dream match is something that is discussed often by wrestling fans, as they like to envision what could have been and what could still be. While most potential dream matches will probably never come to fruition, they can be made a reality from a virtual perspective in WWE 2K14.

WWE has done a great job with its video game rosters in recent years, but it can certainly be argued that WWE 2K14 is better than any of its predecessors in that regard. This year's roster is stacked with past and present greats, which means that matches fans have always dreamed about can play out on your television screen.

The possibilities are nearly endless, but here are three dream matches in particular that most gamers are sure to book while playing WWE 2K14.

Hulk Hogan vs. John Cena

Two Superstars who have constantly been compared to each other over the years are Hulk Hogan and John Cena. Hogan was behind professional wrestling's rise to mainstream acclaim when he dominated the business from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s, and Cena essentially assumed his role in 2003. Cena is unquestionably the most popular and best-known wrestler in the world today, and he is very much a present-day version of Hogan due to his success and appeal to the young demographic.

While both men have a ton of fans, they have their fair share of detractors as well. With that in mind, the dynamic would be quite interesting if they ever went toe-to-toe. If Hogan is to be believed, this dream match almost happened at WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando, Fla., but complications from surgery prevented it from happening, according to WrestlingInc.com, via an interview with Fighting Spirit Magazine.

Also, there is currently talk about Hogan returning to WWE, per WrestlingInc.com (via PWInsider), as he is a free agent. That means the Hogan vs. Cena dream is still alive, although Hogan is 60 years of age.

If you'd prefer to see both men go at it in their respective primes, then playing WWE 2K14 is the only way to make it happen. With Cena at 95 overall and Hogan at 94 overall, this match would be one for the ages.

Shawn Michaels vs. Daniel Bryan

Shawn Michaels is unquestionably one of the most beloved Superstars of all time, as he earned the moniker "Mr. WrestleMania" for his incredible performances on WWE's biggest stage. He was known for his ability to have a great match with pretty much anyone, but that wouldn't be a particularly difficult feat against someone like Daniel Bryan. The master of the Yes Lock is arguably the best in-ring worker in the business today, so a Michaels vs. Bryan match would almost certainly be a hit with the fans.

Coincidentally, Michaels and Bryan have a history together, as HBK helped train the bearded marvel. Also, they had quite a run-in at Hell in a Cell on Sunday. Michaels was the special guest referee for the WWE Championship match between Bryan and Randy Orton, and it ended after HBK hit his former pupil with Sweet Chin Music. With that in mind, perhaps a match between Michaels and Bryan in real life isn't so far-fetched after all.

Michaels does seem to be happy in retirement, though, so it is far from a guarantee. If it doesn't ultimately come to fruition, the next best thing is making it happen in WWE 2K14. Michaels is a 95 overall and Bryan is a 92, so HBK would have a slight advantage. Both men have such varied and exciting movesets that gamers would have a field day building a match between them.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. CM Punk

Unfortunately for wrestling fans everywhere, one dream match that will never actually take place is "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. CM Punk. Savage's untimely passing prevented him from burying the hatchet with Vince McMahon and WWE, but he is remembered fondly for his contributions to the company. Many wrestlers looked up to Savage when they were younger, and one such wrestler is Punk, who has paid tribute to Macho Man in a number of ways since his passing.

Punk once wore Savage-inspired trunks, and he has made Savage's signature flying elbow drop a regular part of his arsenal. As performers, Savage and Punk are similar in many ways. They're both versatile in terms of their ability to adapt to any environment, and they come through on the big stage as well. Savage was perhaps the most underrated WrestleMania performer of all time, as he had great matches with Ricky Steamboat, Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior, among others. Punk very well may be the best big-match performer in WWE today.

Savage was well known for being great as both a face and a heel, and that is something that Punk has seemingly mastered as well. There is no doubt that Savage and Punk would have risen to the occasion had they ever gotten the opportunity to face each other. The virtual versions of the Superstars will do that too in WWE 2K14.
