The saga of Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas and his pet alligator has come to an end.

Five years ago, Delmas, then a rookie, received an alligator egg as a gift from former teammate Ernie Sims. Once it hatched, Delmas kept the alligator and named it Mojo. Delmas, a Florida native, kept Mojo in a 36-square-foot tank in his basement.

However, according to Justin Rogers of, the now-six-foot gator became too hard to handle. Additionally, teammate Kevin Ogletree was moving in with Delmas, and he wasn't a fan of living in the same house as a huge reptile.

"I told him I couldn't stay there with the gator there, so he had to make some adjustments for the New York City kid," Ogletree said.

Eventually, the staff from Allen Park Critter Shop picked up the alligator, and it is currently being taken care of by owner Rick Simms.
