Manningham returned to practice this week, but is unlikely to see any game action until after the 49ers' Week 9 bye. Recovering from two torn knee ligaments has certainly taken its toll on him, but Manningham is expected to assume the No. 2 receiver role upon activation.
The 49ers are in desperate need of a legitimate No. 2 threat and Manningham is already being counted on to fill that need immediately. He'll likely still need to shake off some rust here and there, but he is certainly more than capable of fulfilling the team's need to draw coverage away from Anquan Boldin and help make the passing attack more potent.
