In the second edition of Heisler's Headlines, I'll attempt to quickly catch you up on the NFL happenings from Friday, May 22, 2009.
It's been a rather slow day as far as the NFL goes, I guess everyone was already thinking about the holiday weekend.
Speaking of Memorial Day, I'd like to thank any of you out there who are serving or have served our country.
Without you doing so, we would not be able to enjoy this holiday weekend in peace.
My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who has lost a loved one while serving our great country.
It looks as if it's no deal, when it comes to Jones getting a new contract from the New York Jets.
Thomas Jones, who has two years remaining on his four-year, $20 million contract, would like to restructure the deal.
The 31 year old Jones is scheduled to make $900,000 this season and $5.8 million next season, including a $3 million roster bonus.
Jones earned $13.1 million in the first two years of the contract.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Saints WR Marques Colston underwent microfracture surgery this offseason.
The Saints have been pretty vague about Colston's surgery.
Colston has been running during team activities, so that's a good sign for Saints fans and fantasy owners.
According to Arizona Republic, Cardinals second year WR Early Doucet is making the most of the reps he's getting with Anquan Boldin out.
The talented Doucet has Cardinal coaches and players expecting a breakout year.
"He's got the talent to do a lot of great things for us," fellow WR Steve Breaston said.
Robert Meachem has been running with the first team offense with Colston and Lance Moore recovering from injuries, and it seems he is making the most of this opportunity.
Meachem said that he's lost nearly 10 lbs and has his "explosion" back.
Even Drew Brees said that Meachem looks more confident.
In other Saints WR News,
Lance Moore is still recovering from offseason surgery on his shoulder to repair a torn labrum.
He said that he will take it slowly and that his goal is "to be ready for the first week of the season"
Reported by The New Orleans Times-Picayune
The Cowboys announced that WR Isaiah Stanback had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair a torn lateral meniscus.
Stanback suffered the injury on Tuesday during the Cowboys first O.T.A.
The Dallas Morning News and NFL.com are reporting that the Cowboys are thinking about cutting or trading LB Greg Ellis.
In April, The Cowboys drafted two pass rushers Brandon Williams from Texas Tech and Victor Butler of Oregon St.
The Cowboys also have 2007 first round draft pick Anthony Spencer waiting in the wings.
Trading or releasing Ellis would save the Cowboys $4.15 to $5 million against the cap.
