FULL-TIME: Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham
A composed if not emphatic performance from Spurs, who grabbed two goals (particularly the second) at the right times. Villa caused problems, especially after Benteke's return, but Spurs grew in confidence as the game went on and warranted the three points.
90'+2—Fabian Delph, having had enough of Townsend's tricks, absolutely cleans the winger out. Yellow card is duly awarded. Lennon then gets the same punishment after returning the favour on Weimann (who had also just clattered Townsend).
90'+1—Luna gifts the ball to Townsend, who cannot quite find Defoe with his cross.
90'—Weimann's close-range effort blocked by Chiriches. Four minutes of added time.
89'—Kyle Walker gets himself booked for a somewhat pointless bit of timewasting.
87'—Substitution: Defoe replaces Soldado for the closing few minutes.
85'—Tonev tries another snapshot, but it is straight at Lloris.
84'—Close! Tonev—who historically loves a shot—runs into the box and hits a cross-shot across goal, but Weimann cannot quite get on the end of it.
83'—Walker lashes over when a pass back to Townsend was probably the better option.
82'—Townsend has got better and better. He robs Luna and runs 50 yards with the ball, but cannot quite find Soldado with a through ball. From the corner, Paulinho just goes short to Lennon, whose cross is headed easily to Guzan by Vertonghen.
80'—How does Paulinho not score! Townsend skins Luna and gets to the byline, providing a great low cross. Paulinho is there with time to spare, but inexplicably can't make contact as he ducks for the header!
79'—Weimann again skews well wide from range.
Substitution: Tonev replaces Agbonlahor.
77'—Spurs looking much more fluid in attack now. Soldado tries to find Townsend but Luna just about gets it away.
75'—So close! Townsend cuts inside again, and hits a rasping curler that only creeps half-a-yard over the crossbar! Great effort!
72'—An awful blind pass from Baker gives the ball to Soldado, who returns it to Holtby. He plays in Townsend, but the winger's shot is high from a difficult angle.
Substitution: El Ahmadi off for Yacouba Sylla, and Holtby goes off for Mousa Dembele.
71'—Paulinho heads at Guzan from Townsend's cross.
70'—Sucker-punch for Villa, who were just looking dangerous with Benteke on the pitch. Spurs now looking dangerous, as Holtby dribbles into the box and is only just crowded out.
69'—GOAL! Soldado scores on the break for Spurs! Holtby finds Paulinho with a cutback, who slips in Soldado. The Spaniard then makes no mistake clipping the ball over Guzan. Aston Villa 0-2 Spurs.
68'—A cross from Agbonlahor this time from deep on the left, is again met by Benteke. But he heads into the ground and Lloris saves.
67'—Weimann and Agbonlahor playing very close to Benteke now. Luna looks to break free of Townsend but Walker gets a foot in and the ball runs out for a goal kick.
66'—Sort of. Benteke again meets it, but he's learning back and it goes well wide and over.
Substitution: Sigurdsson withdrawn for Aaron Lennon.
65'—Great tackle from Luna on Townsend prevents Spurs countering. Bacuna finds Weimann, whose cross goes out for a corner. Can Westwood finally offer a decent delivery?
64'—Chance! Perhaps Villa's best passing move of the match ends exactly how they would want it to, with Bacuna crossing for Benteke. But the Belgian can only steer his effort from six yards over the crossbar!
