The gloves are coming off in the reveal process for next-generation sports video games.
On Thursday, 2K Sports dropped its Next-Gen OMG! trailer (yes, that's the official name of it). Normally, one might say the use of first-world acronyms is a little over the top, but in this case, it is appropriate.
We've seen a few snippets here and there of the game, but the minute-and-a-half preview featured above is the most extended look at the game we've seen. It is still fairly short, but there is a lot to like here.
Fans of the series are taking to Twitter to express their pleasure with the preview. Consider some of these reactions:
And I mean, I wrote a whole thing about how the next-gen can't just be about graphics but JEEBUS. It's enough for now.— Steve McPherson (@steventurous) October 17, 2013
If dudes is this hyped off just looking at the game. When y'all hear the features etc it's pretty much a done deal.— Da_Czar (@Da_Czar) October 17, 2013
The overwhelming response has been positive. As mentioned by KSpade64, a popular member of the NBA 2K community, it isn't supposed to be all about graphics, but denying the impact the visuals have on you is like saying all that matters is your girlfriend's or boyfriend's personality.
It sounds good, but in truth we know that's probably not the case.
Besides the visual excellence, the frame of reference for gameplay is pretty solid if the current-generation version of the game is any indication. The thought that the next-gen version of NBA 2K14 would look like this and play like the current-gen version is enough to make fans fake a series of colds to miss work.
We can't make any assumptions about gameplay, servers and mode functionality. However, barring some huge unforeseen issue, this is shaping up to be an epic next-generation debut for the NBA 2K series.
