Powell is coming off a quiet Week 6 in which he rushed a season-low nine times thanks to the Jets abandoning the run game in the second half of their loss to Pittsburgh. He's had consecutive quiet weeks now, and there's certainly a legitimate concern that the Jets fall behind early against the Patriots in Week 7 and OC Marty Morninwheg will again forget about the run.
That said, the Jets threw it 35 times in Week 2 against New England and it didn't work out too well, while Powell ran effectively in limited duty. Look for the Jets to come out with a run-heavy game plan early, but if Powell can't get things going on the ground, they may find themselves putting the ball in Geno Smith's hands more and more again. Powell is nursing a shoulder injury, but there's currently no sign that he's in danger of missing Sunday's game. On the positive end, his main competition for carries, Mike Goodson, just went on IR, though Goodson was only taking away 3-4 carries a game.
