Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has had a street named after him.

The 71-year-old Scot was awarded the Honorary Freedom of the Borough of Trafford at an official ceremony on Monday.

Water's Reach, which according to the club's official website is a street running adjacent to United’s Old Trafford stadium, has been renamed Sir Alex Ferguson Way.

The street is overlooked by a statue of the man who won 13 Premier League titles during 26 years as manager of the club.

There is already a Sir Matt Busby Way in close proximity to the stadium, but the bookmakers are not yet offering odds on David Moyes having a road named after him.
