Thompkins had three catches for 45 yards and scored on a 17-yard touchdown reception with five seconds left to lift the Patriots over the New Orleans Saints. Disappointing for most of the game, the rookie receiver converted only half of his six targets, but made the play of the game.
Thompkins was one of several New England receivers who chipped in to pick up the slack after Danny Amendola had to leave the game with a head injury. Without reliable weapons, Tom Brady was forced to depend on Thompkins, who came through in the clutch.
