UPDATE: Tuesday, Oct. 15
Burke underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the bone fracture in his right index finger. The procedure was performed in Salt Lake City by Dr. Douglas Hutchinson, who reported that the surgery was successful.
Following the procedure, Burke’s index finger was placed in a cast/splint where it will remain for approximately three weeks, at which time he will be re-evaluated by Dr. Hutchinson. Burke will be able to participate in conditioning work during this time period.
He will not travel with the team on its upcoming four-game road trip (October 20-25) that concludes the 2013 preseason schedule.

Trey Burke said his fractured right finger index is in a lot of pain. He'll see a hand specialist Monday to determine what needs to be done.— Jody Genessy (@DJJazzyJody) October 13, 2013
Trey Burke suffered a finger injury in the Utah Jazz's preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Jody Genessy of the Deseret News first reported that Burke was heading to the training room in the first quarter holding his right hand.

On Monday, Oct. 14, it was announced that Burke will undergo surgery to repair the injured finger.
In the first half, the former Michigan Wolverines star played 14 minutes, scoring two points and adding four assists.
This is the exact thing you don't want to have happen in the offseason with your first-round draft pick. The Jazz traded two first-rounders in order to get Burke, and now he's picked up an injury in the preseason.
By letting Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap go in the offseason, Utah decided to blow it up and start over. Burke will be the spearhead for the new Jazz. Losing him for an extended period could stall the project that the franchise has in place.
