Eli Manning's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 6 Performance vs. Bears

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning continues to be nothing more than a matchup-based option at best as far as fake football is concerned.

Against the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, Manning mustered just 239 yards and one touchdown—as well as three interceptions.

Now, this isn't the once highly-feared Chicago defense. This was the No. 24 ranked pass defense missing elite corner Charles Tillman.

In other words, the beat goes on for the younger Manning.

Based on the defense Manning encounters each week, he is possibly worth a start. For example, Manning shredded the No. 31 Dallas pass defense for 450 yards in Week 1. In Week 2 Manning torched Denver, the No. 32 defense, for 362 yards. Week 5 saw Manning exploit Philadelphia, the No. 30 pass defense, for 334 yards.

But against good defenses? Steer clear at all costs. Against Carolina in Week 3, a team with the No. 8 pass defense, Manning mustered just 119 yards.

This simply is not the Eli of old fantasy owners are used to seeing. He's been reduced to nothing more than a mediocre option who has thrown nine touchdowns to 15 interceptions in six games.

As far as trade value goes, there is nothing here. Manning offers little upside despite having an elite set of receiving weapons highlighted by Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks. An outright release for another player with more upside is not out of the question.

The yardage totals are there based on the matchup, but the overwhelming and consistent interception totals negate any positives Manning brings to the table from a fantasy perspective.

Time to abandon ship.
