Female Athletes With And Without Makeup

Many female athletes are absolutely gorgeous without a stitch of makeup on. Which works out pretty well, because sweating and/or being exposed to the elements and makeup do not go together particularly well.

However, the fact that we don't see them dressed up as girly girls very often is what makes it such a treat when we do. All it takes is a dress, a brush and some minimal makeup and they go from effortlessly beautiful to ridiculously stunning.

Here are some of the finest female athletes in the world with, and without, makeup.

Lindsey Vonn, Olympic Skiing

It's absolutely stunning that American alpine skier Lindsey Vonn routinely looks like gorgeous before, during and after competitions. The cold weather probably prevents excessive sweating, but it's still pretty unfathomable.

If Vonn is wearing any making at competitions, it's definitely the bare minimum. And yet she looks as pristine as a (non-creepy) porcelain doll.

If Lindsey Vonn wasn't one of the most decorated female athletes of all time, at a statuesque 5'10 with that long blonde hair, she could have very easily been a model in another life.

In recent years she's done plenty of high profile modeling work and has become a fixture on the red carpet, particularly since embarking in a high profile romance with PGA legend Tiger Woods.

Vonn rarely shows up anywhere with so much as a single hair out of place.

Lolo Jones, Olympic Athlete

Lolo Jones compete as a sprint hurdler in the last two Summer Olympics and looks like she'll compete at the upcoming Olympics in Sochi as a bobsledder.

She is almost as well known for her good looks as her athletic ability, both of which she has in spades. But, if you ask me, Jones looks her best while competing.

Jones high profile has made her a red carpet regular at all the big annual sports events, like the Super Bowl and the ESPY Awards, which is where this photo was taken.

She always looks pretty good, but has a tendency to overdo it at formal events.

Ronda Rousey, UFC

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey is no joke. MMA is very much a male dominated sport, but in recent years she's became the first female signed by UFC and the first to headline an event.

Rousey may not be the au natural beauty that many women on the list are, but she'll disable you with a brutal armbar if you dare say it to her face.

All that brutalizing aside, Rousey does clean up pretty well. She may be most at home in the octagon, but doesn't look like a fish out of water in that dress.

Rousey recently appeared on the cover of Maxim magazine and was one of the athletes featured in ESPN The Magazine's annual Body Issue in 2012.

Danica Patrick, NASCAR

Having become accustom to seeing NASCAR driver Danica Patrick as a GoDaddy girl, sometimes it's a little jarring to see her rocking the jumpsuit and no makeup.

That being said, she usually looks pretty good while doing so. It's not the most glamorous look, but she pulls off the minimalist thing pretty well.

Now this is the version of Patrick most of us are used to seeing. Outside commercials and modeling gigs, she usually stuns on the red carpet.

Patrick is not your average grease monkey. Actually, I'm pretty sure that's what you call mechanics, not car enthusiasts. Whatever.

Maria Sharapova, Tennis

That's obviously not the most flattering face Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has ever made, but that's what most tennis players look like in competition. At least her body looks characteristically slammin'.

Like another famously eye-catching Russian, Anna Kournikova, Sharapova generally looks good regardless of the venue. Makeup or no, you can't really go wrong with tall, beautiful and blonde.

Of course, you can't really go wrong with throwing a little makeup on and getting the hair done too.

Sharapova goes from 'hot for an athlete' to 'just plain hot' with even the most minimal of effort.

Gina Carano, Retired MMA

Even when she was bare-faced and getting the crap kicked out of her by Cris "Cyborg" Santos a few years ago, Gina Carano was still one of MMA's most beautiful.  Considering the brutal nature of the sport, there aren't many fighters who stand out as anything but ridiculously scary. Carano was a welcome respite.

Carano's movie star good looks certainly have helped in her career as a movie star! She was stunning as Mallory Kane in the 2011 underrated Steven Soderbergh action flick Haywire.

In recent years she's been turning heads on the red carpet, first promoting Haywire, then a small role in Fast & Furious 6, and even on the arm of Superman (aka Henry Cavil) who she dated for almost a year.

Kim Yuna, South Korean Figure Skater

Figure skating for women is one of the more glamorous competitive sports, so competition photos of South Korean beauty Yuna Kim are definitely not makeup free.

In fact, it may be when she wears the most makeup. Which makes sense because Yuna clearly doesn't require any in real life—she's essentially flawless.

Expect this 23-year-old beauty to be one of the standouts at the 2014 Winter Olympics Yuna is the 2009 and 2013 World Champion and expected to do very well in Sochi.

So even if the U.S. doesn't win gold, at least someone very easy on the eyes just might.

Hope Solo, U.S. Women's Soccer

Hope Solo has attracted a lot of attention in recent years, including a high profile appearance—sans clothes—in ESPN The Magazine's annual Body Issue in 2011.

The modeling she's done on the side has been more focused on her athlete physique, as opposed to fashion and beauty. That being said, Solo usually looks pretty good.

American soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo doesn't always look her best at formal events, but she really nailed it at the 2013 ESPY Awards.

Her off-the-field style has been improving steadily ever since her appearance on Dancing With the Stars in 2011. Looks like she's hit a sweet spot recently.

Ellie Jean Coffey, Australian Surfer

Ellie Jean Coffey is a surfer girl from the Gold Coast of Australia. She's sponsored by Billabong, which means she does almost as much modeling as surfing.

It certainly isn't any wonder why—I'm buying whatever this girl is selling.

It's actually pretty difficult to find a photo of Coffey with makeup—probably because she doesn't need it…like at all.

Sure it doesn't hurt her, as evidenced by this photo, but she looks just as good—if not better—in her candid selfles on Instagram

Roberta Mancino, Extreme Sports

Roberta Mancino is an Italian adrenaline junky who has never met a potentially deadly extreme sport she didn't like. Seriously, I worry for her safety.

She's probably jumping out of an airplane or flinging herself off a rocky cliff at this exact moment. And looking good while doing it, no doubt.

She may even be naked while doing it. (Seriously...Google it)

In addition to being one of the most daring female athletes on the planet, Mancino also happens to be one of the most beautiful women on the very same planet.

She gets plenty regular modeling work which is likely how she finances her globetrotting, skydiving lifestyle.

Natasha Hastings, Olympic Sprinter

21 of 30

    Christian Petersen/Getty Images

American sprinter Natasha Hastings is proof that everyone looks better with a gold medal around their neck. Winning is just a good look.

Of course, the hardware isn't the only thing she has going for her in the looks department.

Like another sprinter, Lolo Jones, Hastings also appeared in ESPN The Magazine's annual Body Issue in 2011.

She looked lovely in leather with ruby red lips at the issue release party.

Zsuzsanna Jakabos, Hungarian Swimmer

23 of 30

    Paolo Bruno/Getty Images

Hungarian swimmer Zsuzsanna Jakobs is so exceptionally attractive that she has the ability to make getting out of the pool at an international swimming competition look like a modeling shoot.

Seriously—look at that photo. How is that even possible?

If Jakabos looked that good climbing out of a pool, of course she is going to look this good at an actual photo shoot.

This girl would look just as at home modeling in the pages of Vogue as she does swimming in an Olympic sized pool.

Skylar Diggins, Tulsa Shock

Skylar Diggins was a standout star at the University of Notre Dame before being drafted into the WNBA by the Tulsa Shock in 2013. She was the third overall pick.

Diggins is striking on and off the court, even in sweats and little to no makeup. As you can clearly see.

Diggins actually looks like a completely different person dressed to the nines. Which I'd say was a great thing, if she didn't already look so great to begin with.

So let's just say it's a good thing and that Diggins looks fantastic no matter what.

Darya Klishina, Russian Long Jumper

27 of 30

    Ian Walton/Getty Images

It doesn't seem real, but this is Russian long jumper Darya Klishina without makeup. Seriously, all the makeup in the world can't make someone look this good.

If this is what she looks like while competing in track and field at the World Indoor Championships, the rest of us ladies should probably just give up right now.

There is hardly a difference between Klishina's traffic-stopping face in competition vs. a modeling shoot, which this photo is from.

She is unquestionably one of the most beautiful women int he world.

Alex Morgan, U.S. Women's Soccer

29 of 30

    Scott Heavey/Getty Images

American soccer player Alex Morgan is a natural beauty, obviously. She looks almost as good—and sometimes even better—on the field with the bare minimum of makeup.

Probably because that's where she seems happiest and most comfortable.

That's not to say that she ever looks anything but great—she doesn't. Morgan just looks more like her self, which is perfection, in shorts and a soccer jersey.

Of course, she's a welcome addition to any red carpet.
