Palmer has his work cut out for him this week as he faces a San Francisco pass defense that ranks eighth overall in the NFL and has allowed the fourth fewest passing yards this season. He hasn't looked particularly sharp in his new home and it's tough to expect much more out of him given the match-up.
Things have been slow-going for Palmer this year and the lack of a consistent running game is one of the primary reasons. Rashard Mendenahll isn't helping to establish the run and defenses have been able to fall back into coverage more and simply wait for Palmer to make a mistake. And given the fact that he has nine interceptions to just five touchdowns through the first five weeks, the mistakes have been plentiful. The 49ers have been struggling against the run this year so look for the Cardinals to try and minimize the number of throws Palmer makes in this one. He might be forced into playing catch-up in the second half, but even his garbage-time points won't be worth your while.
