Jeff Green Jumps over D.J. Augustin, Blocks His Shot

Dan CarsonTrending Lead WriterNovember 18, 2016

What’s worse than having your shot spiked out of bounds like a volleyball? Being jumped over, and then having your shot spiked out of bounds.

This is precisely what happened to D.J. Augustin during Tuesday night’s preseason game between the Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics. The Raptors point guard found himself in a fast-break situation with one man to beat—or so he thought.

Augustin was attempting to cross over Boston’s Kelly Olynyk on his way to the rim, but hadn’t accounted for a trailing Jeff Green, who leapt up and over the Toronto guard as he attempted an off-balanced floater.

The result was total domination. Green cleared the 6’0” Augustin easily and swatted his shot like a volleyball player going for the kill.

Footage of the ugly incident was spotted by John Ferensen of Next Impulse Sports, who also provides us with a lovely GIF of Green leaping over Augustin.

Augustin appears to catch a glancing blow from Green’s undercarriage and also might’ve smacked his head on the forward’s left leg. Augustin was able to get up and appeared to be OK, although there’s no word on whether or not the ball survived.

All jokes aside, it was a freaky moment of athleticism and an excellent example of hustle. All of these players have secured a spot on their teams' rosters, and things were rather physical for a preseason game.

The Raptors would go on to win 97-89, and Green (along with Kris Humphries) hit the treadmills after the game to work on their conditioning for the fast-paced, hard-grinding season ahead, as per Jay King of

That’s dedication. Running full court and jumping over another human being takes endurance, and Green understands that.
