Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays Game 4: Live Score and ALDS Highlights

The Boston Red Sox were able to hold off the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 on the road in Game 4 to win the ALDS. Jacoby Ellsbury scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh on a Shane Victorino infield single. The Red Sox will play the winner of the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics series, which is currently tied 2-2.

Rays manager Joe Maddon went to the bullpen early and often, using nine pitchers on the night. The moves worked early, and the Red Sox left six men on base through five innings.

David DeJesus gave the Rays the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single to right field that drove in Yunel Escobar.

But in the seventh the Red Sox got on the board after a Joel Peralta wild pitch got by Jose Lobaton, scoring pinch hitter Xander Bogaerts.

They scored again on the very next play—an infield hit by Shane Victorino—with Jacoby Ellsbury coming in from third.

The Red Sox added an insurance run in the ninth, as a Dustin Pedroia sacrifice fly to right field scored Bogaerts.

Koji Uehara got the final four outs for the Red Sox without allowing a hit. Rays third baseman Evan Longoria struck out swinging for the final out.

The Red Sox pitching staff did not issue a walk in the game, a sharp contrast to the 10 walks allowed by the Rays. The Red Sox left 10 of their 16 runners on base, while the Rays left just three runners stranded.
