The benches cleared during the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series between the Oakland A's and Detroit Tigers as closer Grant Balfour and designated hitter Victor Martinez exchanged F-bombs and nearly came to blows.
Here's what Balfour told MLB.com's Jane Lee about how it went down:
Balfour: "He gave me the death stare. I said, if you have a problem, come on out. And he came out."— Jane Lee (@JaneMLB) October 7, 2013
And here's what Martinez had to say about it:
VMart: "He said, 'What the (bleep) are you looking at?' I don't take that (bleep). I'm not a rookie.” #Tigers— Matthew B. Mowery (@matthewbmowery) October 7, 2013
Balfour would go on to get the final three outs to give Oakland the 6-3 win and a 2-1 series lead.
