Tim Tebow Would Be Instant Upgrade for Jacksonville Jaguars

Tim Tebow isn't a good NFL quarterback, but he's better than anyone currently on the roster for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Heading into Week 5, the Jaguars have displayed a level of futility to rival the 2008 Detroit Lions, losing their first four games by an average of 24.5 points per game.

The two-headed monster (not the good kind) at quarterback the Jaguars have relied on to this point—Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne—has combined to throw just one touchdown pass and seven interceptions, and they've been sacked an astonishing 18 times.

They've also managed to complete just 53 percent of their passes, averaging a pitiful 5.5 yards per attempt.

Tebow would be an instant upgrade, provided the offense is tailored to his skill set.

Jacksonville's rushing attack has been horrific this season, averaging just 2.3 yards per carry with only two touchdowns on the season.

Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch could turn the Jags into a read-option team easily, and the change would minimize the team's ineffective offensive line.

Though Tebow isn't a speedster, and he's not quick, he's an effective runner between the tackles. Throughout his career, the former Gators star has averaged five yards per carry and has scored 12 rushing touchdowns.

The Jaguars have an offensive weapon by the name of Denard Robinson, the perfect complement to Tebow in the read-option. His speed and quickness would stretch defenses horizontally from sideline to sideline, opening up running lanes between the tackles.

And though Tebow isn't a particularly accurate passer (47.9 percent for his career), he's surprisingly adept at pulling off big throws downfield. He'll miss on some easy short and intermediate passes, but he'll also connect with his receivers for game-changing plays.

In addition to Tebow's unique physical attributes, he brings a wealth of intangibles the Jaguars desperately need. There doesn't appear to be any life on the sidelines with this team right now. Everyone watching knows the Jaguars are bad, and it seems like this team knows it, too.

But Tebow's warrior mentality and inherent leadership qualities would make an instant impact. He demands the best from his teammates and leads by example.

The Jaguars won't likely win many games this year—no matter who lines up behind center. There simply isn't much talent on Jacksonville's roster.

That said, adding Tebow to the starting lineup would give this team the best chance of overcoming the limitations and faults that permeate the franchise.
