Analyzing Rashard Mendenhall's Long-Term Fantasy Value in 2013 After Week 5
Rashard Mendenhall's time as the only feature back in the Arizona Cardinals' backfield is coming to an end thanks to the emergence of rookie Andre Ellington.
Mendenhall rumbled for just 43 yards on 17 carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, giving him a horrendous 2.5 yards per carry average. He did manage to hawk a touchdown from the rookie:
On the other hand, Ellington rumbled for 52 yards on just seven carries, giving him an impressive 7.4 average.
The writing is on the wall.
In five games since joining the Cardinals, Mendenhall has failed to crack the 70-yard mark and has scored just two touchdowns. His average has climbed above 4.0 territory just once.
Mendenhall should be owned in no leagues at this point as Arizona continues to pump out nothing fantasy worthy outside of the wide receiver position. There was hope Mendenhall could be productive in the desert, but that ship has sailed.
