Jim Thome...From Foe to Whoa!

As a die hard White Sox fan, I had to hate Jim Thome too. Guilty by association. Now that he is on my team, life is beautiful.

Chicago White Sox, Jim Thome

IconAs I'm writing this...Jim Thome just hit his 9th home run of the season.

Coming from central Illinois & being a White Sox fan, I was always torn on Jim Thome. He's from Peoria, which is pretty much where I am from. He came into the league, however, with the Cleveland Indians. I hate the Indians. For years, they would come out at the end of the season and destroy my hopes of any kind of postseason elation (after some time they were replaced by the Twinkies...though it looks to be the Indians to watch again).

His move to Philly eased the tension a little. Although, I've only been a National League fan in recent years. With him not in my life for some time, it was easy to forget about the local slugger.

Now that he is on my team, life is beatiful. I can cheer on my hometown hero & my team at once. And, he is giving me every reason to do so.

Today marked the extension of his league record 17 straight games scoring a run to start a season. He also has been walked intentionally 6 times already (is everyone scared much?). In his injury plagued season last year, he had 7 homeruns. Today, through 17 games, he hit his 9th homer of the young season.

Jim, I salute your wise move to the Sox & hope for many productive seasons to come. Let's go out there & get that much sought after repeat pennant. Let's never be apart again.

  1. you gotta admit Frank Thomas got hung out to dry. After all he did for the ChiSox, to be marginalizing the way he was while they played their way to the championship was a shame. Shame, shame.

  2. Dave, I am a life-long White Sox fan (god I hate the Cubs). Frank Thomas had a number of great years with the Sox and probably should have won the MVP over Giambi in 2000, but the way he handled himself during last year and this past off-season was laughable. The guy has no clue.

  3. ...i meant to type no class. I need a copy editor.
