Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Atlanta Braves Game 1: Live Score and NLDS Highlights

Tyler DumaFeatured ColumnistOctober 3, 2013

The Dodgers struck for four runs early on tonight grabbing two runs in both the second and the third innings.

Adrian Gonzalez took Kris Medlen deep in the third, breaking the game open with a 4-0 Dodger lead. The Braves rebounded slightly in the fourth, getting one. However, they stranded two runners on base a theme which held true for most of the night as they left seven runners on base.

After posting the second zero of the night for the Braves, Luis Ayala was pulled in favor of Jordan Walden. Walden went on to give a run back as the Dodgers struck for one in the sixth, their first run off a pitcher not named Medlen.

Clayton Kershaw, who picked up the win in tonight's game, was on his game all night long for the Dodgers. The 25-year-old ace went seven strong innings allowing just one run on three hits and three walks, while striking out 12. His pitch count got the better of him though as he was replaced by former Giant, Brian Wilson.

Wilson managed to keep the Braves at bay allowing just one hit in a single inning pitched.

Kenley Jansen, the Dodgers hard-throwing closer came in to work the ninth. The 26-year-old struck out three of the four batters he faced, giving the Dodgers pitching staff 15 strikeouts for the night.

All-in-all, the Braves disappointed. They left runners on base in multiple innings and were unable to make any sort of consistent contact—15 strikeouts to just five hits.

The Dodgers have jumped out to an early 1-0 lead here in this NLDS matchup, but these two teams will meet up tomorrow night at 6:07 p.m. ET in what will be the most important game of the season for either team. The Dodgers will send Zack Greinke to the hill while the Braves will look to Mike Minor to stop the bleeding.
