Bills vs. Browns: Live Scores, Highlights and Analysis
The difference in the contest was certainly the Browns' defense and Travis Benjamin. Until he left with injury, the Browns' defense forced E.J. Manuel into bad decisions all game long.
Benjamin, who broke the Browns single-game record for punt return yards, set the offense up with great field position constantly and even took one to the house for a score.
Brandon Weeden played admirably in place of Hoyer, going 13-for-24 for 197 yards and touchdown. Willis McGahee carried the load on the ground rushing 26 times for 72 yards and a touchdown.
The Browns advance to 3-2 while the Bills fall to 2-3 on the season.
Once again, the final score was Cleveland 37, Buffalo 24.
The Browns defense saves the day in Cleveland as T.J. Ward picks off Jeff Tuel and returns it for a touchdown.
That shoud do it.
Brandon Weeden once again comes up with two big throws and gets the Browns into scoring position.
If the Browns hold on, they can point to Weeden's throw to Gordon on 3rd-and-18 as the game clinching play.
Another great stop inside the red zone for the Buffalo defense. This gives their offense a chance.
It doesn't look like Tuel can lead a long touchdown drive but one pass and some runs can conceivably get them within field goal range.
At this point, the Bills should just run the ball every play. Jeff Tuel looks absolutely awful.
He hasn't been anywhere near his receivers on throws and is panicking in the pocket.
Brandon Weeden answers Buffalo's touchdown drive with two huge passes. The first pass to Greg Little was right down the middle of the field. The second pass dropped right into Josh Gordon's hands in the end zone.
Those are the type of throws that make you think Weeden has the potential to be a big time quarterback. Unfortunately, there has never been a question about the deep ball with him. His struggles are in short yardage situations and tight windows.
The injuries in the Bills' secondary are being exposed here in the third quarter.
The Bills finally get a call to to go their way as T.J. Ward was called for pass interference in the end zone, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run for Fred Jackson.
Earlier on the drive E.J. Manuel suffered a gruesome injury after a scramble. Browns safety Tashaun Gipson hit Manuel's knee and it looked like a similar injury to Willis McGahee's back in the 2002 National Championship game.
Unlike McGahee, Manuel was able to walk off under his own power. He is now jogging on the sideline. It looks like he will return to the game.
C.J. Spiller proves he was healthy enough to play tonight as he runs a 54-yard TD right through the Browns' defense to tie the game at 17.
Run defense has been the Browns bread and butter this season. On that play, they over committed to the right side and Spiller found a cutback lane. His speed certainly looked healthy.
Brian Hoyer and Stevie Johnson have also been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Travis Benjamin with a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown. He showed a little of everything on that return. He had vision early on, speed to get outside and then broke a tackle late.
Huge swing of momentum here in the second quarter.
The Browns tie the game up with the help of two Bills defensive penalties. While the Browns were able to march into the red zone, the Bills handed the Browns that score.
E.J. Manuel is having trouble getting comfortable in the pocket. The Bills should continue to lean on Fred Jackson as they are having some success on the ground.
Very efficient drive here by Weeeden and the Browns. The Bills held the Browns out of the end zone on their last possession. Let's see if they can hold strong again.
Brandon Weeden is having all kinds of trouble finding receivers. He needs to throw guys open instead of waiting for them to run open.
The Bills defense has held stout after allowing the 57-yard punt return to Travis Benjamin.
Browns QB Brian Hoyer was rolled on after a scramble for a first down and had to be helped off the field. Brandon Weeden enters the game for the Browns.
Not a good start for the Browns. Josh Gordon drops a possible touchdown, the punt coverage team gives up a big return and Joe Haden has a pass interference penalty.
On the other hand, that was the perfect start for Buffalo. They gave E.J. Manuel a short field and now spot him a seven point lead.
The Browns will need to play more poised. Head coach Rob Chudzinski usually has his team calm and collected. They seemed to be a little too fired up on those first two drives.
Jim Leonard is one of the more dangerous kick returners in the NFL. This is great starting position to get rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel comfortable.
We are about set for kickoff her at FirstEnergy Stadium here in Cleveland. The atmosphere is loud and boisterous.
The Browns will wear their all brown uniforms for the first time this season. The Bills have their white uniforms with blue pants.
