After what seemed to be a boring lottery draft, the Memphis Grizzlies suddenly became a top three pick after not being selected for the sixth pick. Then, the team with the best percentage at getting first pick, the Sacramento Kings, were chosen with the fourth pick.
The Top Three teams ended like this, Oklahoma City Thunder with the third pick, Memphis Grizzlies with the second, and the Los Angeles Clippers with the first overall pick.
I will break down the top three teams and see what it would be like to have Blake Griffin, Hasheem Thabeet, or Ricky Rubio.
After an exciting for season, the Thunders certainly surprised many with their young talent. Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, and Russell Westbrook proved that they have what it takes to become big stars in the near future.
With the third pick of the draft, I really see the Thunders drafting point-guard Ricky Rubio. If they do indeed draft him, Rubio would fit in quite nicely at the point. The Thunders need for a shooting guard would be solved by simply switching Westbrook to the two.
If Rubio somehow gets selected before the Thunders turn, Thabeet would be a great addition to the team as well. Standing 7'3", he would easily grab the most rebounds and block the most shots for this young and athletic team.
Although he is still very raw, I could see him being placed into the starting lineup.
Even though their is no chance the Thunders will be able to pick Blake Griffin, I really feel like he would be the best fit for Oklahoma. He would play the starting power-forward position, enabling Durant to move to the two and Green to the three.
This team would have high hopes in becoming an elite team in the future.
The Grizzlies are another team with a boatload of young talent filled on their roster. With the second pick of the draft it is more than likely that they will select UConn's star Hasheem Thabeet.
Thabeet would probably come off of the bench as Marc Gasol is the starting center for Memphis. He proved to be very efficient for them this season. If Griffin fell to Memphis, he would be placed into the starting lineup instantly.
With Mike Conley at the 1, O.J. Mayo at the 2, Rudy Gay at the 3, Griffin at the 4, and Gasol at the 5, this team would have one of the nicest starting lineups in the league. If they were to select Ricky Rubio, he would most likely come off the bench as a backup to Mike Conley.
But for how long? Rubio is one of the best players in Europe and has played professional ball since he was 13 years of age.
After an extremely disappointing season, the L.A. Clippers will look to rebuild with the first overall draft pick. More likely than not, the Clippers will select Blake Griffin.
With already a stacked team, Griffin would have to come off of the bench and back up power forward Zach Randolph.
As a sixth man, Griffin would still be able to show his talent and average consistent minutes throughout the season. If the Clippers for some reason selected Hasheem Thabeet, he would come off of the bench as well.
If Camby is traded away before the start of the season, Thabeet would play a lot more backing up just Chris Kaman. If the Clippers were to select Rubio, he would back up point guard Baron Davis. Rubio would not be able to show his true talent until he became the starting guard for L.A
