Church's Brain Lapse Keeps Mets in Limbo

LOS ANGELES, CA - MAY 18: Ryan Church #19 of the New York Mets celebrates his run with Luis Castillo #1 off of an Angel Pagan #16 triple against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 11th inning at Dodger Stadium on May 18, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The run was taken away as Church was called out for not touching third base on the way to home. The Mets would lose 3-2. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)

Just when I thought I had seen it all.

The Mets have been living on the dangerous side of things all night, with three errors and a couple of bad judgment plays. But right now, the bonehead of the night award goes to Ryan Church, who missed third while he would have scored the lead run.

Church knew it, too, and as I write this, Brian Stokes just walked Mark Loretta on four pitches. This is the kind of game in which the Mets historically lose, and it seems like momentum is taking a major shift towards the Dodgers.

This is just painful.

By the way, Beltran and Pagan just decided not to catch the ball, and the bases will be loaded in the 11th and none out. Looks like I will be able to go bed soon.
