Celtic vs. Barcelona: Champions League Live Score, Highlights, Recap
Celtic Park—Scotland, UK
Celtic 0-1 Barcelona
Barcelona avenged the demons of 2012 by squeezing past Celtic with a 1-0 scoreline.
The away side dominated the ball for long periods but lacked cutting edge, and it wasn't until Scott Brown was shown a straight red card that the tide began to turn.
Cesc Fabregas netted the only goal of the game after wonderful work from Neymar and Alexis Sanchez, and Fraser Forster made three glorious saves late on to keep the deficit at just a single goal.
Barca make it six from six after claiming a 1-0 victory at Celtic Park. The turning point? Most certainly Scott Brown's sending off.
91'—Another incredible save from Forster, stopping Neymar one vs. one from sealing it after an Alexis through-ball.
Four added minutes (minimum)
Iniesta off, Song on.
Neymar smashes an effort goalward and Forster gets down to make a brilliant save, then smothers the follow-up from Alexis at point-blank range! Unbelievable!
85'—Wow! Izaguirre has just pol-axed Bartra, rightly yellow card.
Commons off, Pukki on!
Completed passes: Barcelona - 582. 10-man Celtic: 74.— Kyle Bonn (@the_bonnfire) October 1, 2013
77'—In the aftermath...
Cesc is replaced by Cristian Tello and Samaras is booked.
More on the goal
Neymar breaks quickly, commits defenders centrally and feeds Alexis superbly on the right side. The Chilean hits the byline and crosses a perfect ball in for Cesc Fabregas to head home at the far post!
GOAL! BARCA BREAK THE DEADLOCK!
74'—Busquets goes into the book for a late challenge on Kayal.
A long throw drops to Forrest and he takes it down, then smashes it goalward on the half volley. Valdes makes a great save!
The resulting corner is swung in, and a free header is just wide from Mulgrew.
Alexis Sanchez on, Pedro off.
Adam Matthews has dropped into defence for Celtic and James Forrest has taken his place on the wing.
Neymar plays a superb 1-2 with Xavi in the box and fires wide in a hurry. The crowd, who have been booing him incessantly, cheer with glee at his misfortune.
James Forrest ON, Mikael Lustig off.
Beram Kayal on, Anthony Stokes off.
68'—A word to sum up Barca's showing so far? Hesitant. Particularly Fabregas, who simply refuses to pull the trigger or commit to forward runs.
64'—Barca are finding it even easier to dominate the ball now, but Celtic's shape remains. Bartra has a crack from 25 yards and Forster saves with ease.
Checking the replay, Brown does kick out at Neymar after fouling him. The Brazilian acts as if he's been shot to ensure the referee notices...tough call there.
RED CARD! Scott Brown receives a straight red card!
He fouls Neymar and appears to kick out at the Brazilian while on the ground...but on first glance nothing jumps out as red card-worthy.
57'—A sniff on goal!
Barca dawdle in their clearing and Pique messes up his header. Stokes is through...but the Spaniard does brilliantly to recover and clear.
55'—Xavi has a rasping shot blocked by Van Dijk's back and Alves is now writhing on the floor after a 50/50 with Mulgrew.
53'—Sighter! Scott Brown takes a ball down on the edge of Barca's box and smashes it high over the bar. It's the effort that counts, though.
50'—More of the same from both sides, with neither manager flinching into changing just yet. Ambrose typified Celtic's play, going on a 40-yard run before hesitating and losing the ball.
45'—Second half starts!
Said free kick is saved by a random body part of Forster, and the corner is cleared. The referee calls it half.
