European Team of the Week: Romelu Lukaku, Aaron Ramsey and Paul Pogba Star
It seems that everyone bar the Chelsea management knows that they should have bought neither Demba Ba nor Samuel Eto'o, and Romelu Lukaku should never have been shipped out on loan for another season.
Seventeen Premier League goals last season for mid-table West Brom should have convinced the powers that be of his credentials, and he continued to show how good he already is at the tender age of 20 with a standout performance in his new club Everton's 3-2 victory over Newcastle on Monday night.
Two goals and an assist saw Lukaku rack up the highest WhoScored.com rating by any player in a Premier League game this season, hitting 9.5 as he played a key role in all of his side's goals. Every attack went through the Belgian youngster, who had five shots and made three key passes in a scintillating display that will have Chelsea fans again tearing their hair out.
His partner up front in the Team of the Week is Bayern Munich-bound Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who helped get his side back to winning ways in the 5-0 drubbing of Freiburg with two goals from five shots, four of which hit the target.
Three of Lewandowski's teammates join him in the Best XI, with Marco Reus' two goals and one assist earning him a rating of 9.5, while Mats Hummels and stand-in right-back Kevin Grosskreutz put in accomplished displays in defence to maintain the side's clean sheet, making a combined total of seven tackles, seven interceptions and five clearances.
Making up the defence are Mehdi Benatia and Marcell Jansen, the former scoring Roma's third goal in their 5-0 win over Bologna while also winning 100 percent of his aerial duels, making nine interceptions and maintaining an impressive 90 percent pass completion rate on the way to a rating of 9.1. Left-back Jansen, meanwhile, scored an 86th-minute equaliser for Hamburg, made six tackles and played two key passes. In goal, Hull's Allan McGregor kept West Ham at bay with five saves in his side's 1-0 win that has taken them up to eighth in the table.
In central midfield, Aaron Ramsey kept up his impressive form in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Swansea, setting up Serge Gnabry's opener with a cleverly disguised reverse pass before scoring the second that put the result beyond doubt. WhoScored's Premier League player of the month for September has been in fantastic form, his latest performance and 9.4 rating the icing on the cake in what has been a brilliant start to the season for the Gunners.
Making up a young heart to the Team of the Week is Juventus' Paul Pogba, who controlled the Turin derby in Andrea Pirlo's absence, with 66 passes and the all-important goal in his side's 1-0 win.
Last and most certainly not least is player of the week Eljero Elia, who hit a perfect 10 in Werder Bremen's 3-3 draw with Nurnberg, terrorising the opposition defence with seven successful dribbles, five key passes and two goals from only two attempts. He also helped out without the ball, making four tackles and four interceptions.
