Kobe Bryant or LeBron James for President!

Kosty YablonApr 15, 2008

The argument of who is better Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, is probably more debated than the candidates for president. So why not name one of the two All-Stars for president?

As the season is coming to an end, the big question is who is the MVP? Chris Paul, KG, and Dwight are definitely in the running and put up a great argument, but almost every year Kobe and LeBron are in the discussion.

Don't get me wrong, I admire both players. They are phenomenal athletes and the present/future of this league. But my vote has to go to the Philadelphia born, three-time NBA title winning Laker. LeBron is great, and I believe he is going to become one of the best players of all time in the future, but we're not talking about the future. This is all about right now and Kobe is now, LeBron is tomorrow.

Bryant is the only player I can confidently say does not have a weakness in his game. He has the skill and talent to do anything that is required of him. Not to forget, he is by far the best clutch player in the NBA, and arguably of all-time (tied with Reggie Miller).

But wait. Kobe is a "ball hog" and "selfish", right? Wrong. Kobe had 14 games this year scoring under 20 PPG, 12 of those games were wins. While LeBron had only six games under 20 PPG and only two of them were wins. But that's not all.

I'll bring out all the statistics. "LeBron averages more ppg than Kobe." This is true, but  of the 39 games in which LeBron scored 30+, his record was 24-15; Kobe had 36 games scoring 30+, and his record was 26-10. More wins, less losses.

Kobe does have a better team with Pau and Bynum than LeBron and his crew, but Gasol and Bynum combine for 61 missed games this year. Kobe had the team on his shoulders the majority of the season in the WEST and brought the Lakers to the number-one seed, while LeBron is barely getting fourth in the East.

Getting 45 or 46 wins in the east isn't MVP worthy, but 57 wins in a heated playoff battle with eight other teams above .500 sounds like a MVP chant.

Anyways, this is LeBron's fifth year in the NBA. What was Kobe doing five years into his career? He won his second NBA title. The King still has a lot of growing up to do, and he will. Kobe has had one of the most controversial NBA careers. From conflict with Shaq to being accused of rape, and he has matured from those distractions in his career, and developed as the most dangerous player in the modern era.

Kobe is the most deserving of the title he has never had, and he will forever have a chip on his shoulder until he wins the MVP and another title to show the media he can win his fourth title without Shaq, just like Shaq did without him. Kobe for MVP.
