Someone Shouted 'Papa John's' Before Peyton Manning Pass, and We Want Answers

Better offense. Better quarterback. Papa John's.

Business Insider's Cork Gaines reports on a peculiar phrase shouted right before Peyton Manning snapped the ball on Sunday.

ESPN's Darren Rovell spotted some tweets and simply had to find out what was being shouted in Sunday's game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos.

Below is a video with the moment in question, and you can judge for yourself.

It's beautiful to see Manning command an offense. The frantic pace and wild calls spewing from his mouth inevitably lead to pristine passes. This season, the "Omaha" shouts are louder and the passes are far more accurate. At least, that's what it seems like.

As Gaines notes, and we completely agree, the call comes from someone other than Manning.

We understand that considering all the commercials Manning stars in for the pizza company, you might assume it was the 37-year-old quarterback throwing a shoutout to his best bud. But Gaines seems to think it was an offensive lineman; perhaps center Manny Ramirez called an audible ahead of the play. Then again, it could have been the Eagles chiding the Broncos' prolific offense.

Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin was on with 94WIP’s Michael Barkann and Ike Reese on Monday, where he stated the following, via CBS Philadelphia:

Well I know—I think I might have heard Papa John’s once, but I don’t know who said it, I mean that’s kind of funny.

When any quarterback goes and talks at the line or any center, they start yelling ‘Mike’s 59′ or ’98′s the 4th down’ where they try to figure out the protection, we, on defense, we start, like I’ll say—if they start yelling ’98′s down, meaning I’m the fourth rusher, I’ll start yelling ’59′s down’ because it just confuses them. We can say, we tell the referee that we’re changing who our fourth is upon what they say. So that kind of stuff happens all the time when quarterbacks are making calls and defenses are trying to make calls back.

For the moment, this will have to remain a silly mystery, much like what Chip Kelly's play cards really mean.

If the Eagles were trying to troll the offense, it hardly worked. As you can see at the end of the video, Manning completed the pass to Wes Welker, which was sort of a theme on Sunday. The Broncos receiver had seven receptions for 76 yards and two touchdowns in a game the Broncos would ultimately win 52-20.

There must be something in the pizza, because Manning has already passed for 1,470 yards and 16 touchdowns this season.

This just reinforces what we already knew this season: Manning delivers no matter what is being shouted when the ball is snapped.
