Thibaut Courtois Fakes Injury in Gareth Bale Attack During Madrid Derby

Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 1-0 at the Bernabeu in a fierce derby match on Saturday night. However, despite having the better of the match, the visitors were under some pressure in the final moments to hang on to their lead.

Gareth Bale, brought on for his home debut as a second-half substitute, chased down a lost cause for Real Madrid deep into injury time and very nearly poached the ball from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois, however, was in no mood to be embarrassed by Bale. Having fumbled the ball, he simply went to ground as if he'd been booted in the stomach by the Welshman.

As you can see in the video above, Bale doesn't make any contact with the Belgian, who is on loan at Atletico from Chelsea.

Someone get Thibaut Courtois an Oscar.

With acting skills like you can see in the GIF below (via 101 Great Goals), it's hard for the referee to see precisely what has happened.

All the while, though, the clock is running down, and Atletico are marching toward their first victory at the Bernabeu in La Liga since 1999.

The result meant that Diego Simeone's team have now recorded seven victories from seven matches in their season so far. Despite the play-acting, Courtois has been impressive, conceding just five goals.

Remarkably, though, that's not enough to put them top of the table—Barcelona have managed the same from their first seven games, and have a superior goal difference.

Real Madrid are five points behind the duo in third place.
