Matt Cassell vs. Christian Ponder: Which QB Is Better for Vikings' Fantasy Stars?
The quarterback battle in Minnesota is about to heat up. Matt Cassel is leading the Vikings to a comfortable lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers in London. Christian Ponder went 0-3 to start the season, so who gives the team a better chance to win this year?
Ponder did a good job of managing games last season and letting Adrian Peterson carry the load. This season he was completing only 59 percent of his passes in three losses. However, he put his team in position to win two of those games. The defense allowed last-minute touchdowns as the team lost both.
Cassel replaced Ponder after the starter suffered a rib injury. In his starting performance, he went 16-of-25 for 248 yards and two touchdowns. He faced a Pittsburgh team that is now 0-4 and a total mess.
In Kansas City, Cassel never showed that he was the long-term answer. Until Ponder proves that he is healthy and can be effective, this should be Cassel's team. He has done a good job of taking care of the football and leading his team to points.
The competition may not be the best, but the Steelers always have a strong defense. He was helped by two plays of more than 50 yards through the air. It was an impressive debut with the Vikings for Cassel.
