Currently, The Usos are the most popular babyface tag team in WWE. This is shown through the loud reaction that the live audience gives them. When The Usos yell, “U,” the live crowd cannot help but yell back, “So.”
With their signature chant of “Uso” and high-flying excitement, it is no wonder why they are so popular in the WWE Universe. Their recent success in the tag team division has not gone unnoticed, as they are the No. 1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
The Usos should be the next tag team to hold the belts, and here is why.
A fixture on WWE programming since their debut in 2010, The Usos have feuded with The Hart Dynasty, David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty, Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks, Darren Young and Titus O’Neil, Epico and Primo, 3MB, and The Shield.
Through all of their wins and losses, The Usos have slowly worked their way up to the top of the tag team division over the past three years.
Along the way, they have had multiple shots at the championship and come up short. Their most recent title shot came against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins of The Shield at Money in the Bank 2013. According to Bobby Melok of WWE.com, The Usos may have lost to The Shield, but they were “the first team to truly test their championship rule.”
Instead of complaining about losing, The Usos once again worked their way back up to the No. 1 contender position on the September 16, 2013 edition of Raw by defeating Tons of Funk and The Real Americans.
Because of their work ethic in earning the No. 1 contender spot, The Usos should be the next WWE tag team champions.
Although The Usos have not defeated The Shield’s Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in direct tag team competition, they have beaten all three members of The Shield in various six-man tag team matches.
In teaming with Daniel Bryan and Christian, The Usos have found success in taking on all three members of The Shield.
Building on their recent success against The Shield, Jey Uso pinned Roman Reigns on the September 23, 2013 edition of Raw after a Samoan Splash. The win was something special since it was the first time Reigns had ever been pinned in WWE.
Even though it was during an “11-on-3 Handicap Elimination Match,” the elimination of Reigns by Jey Uso is a special moment that helped to make The Usos believable contenders.
Without a win over the tag team champions in even a non-title tag team match thus far, The Usos winning the Tag Team Championship would be an unlikely but earned surprise.
If The Usos defeat Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, a rematch for the Tag Team Championship would most likely occur.
With The Shield featured prominently on WWE programming at the side of Triple H, a high-profile rematch with some kind of stipulation would probably be utilized. This would go along with Triple H’s “best for business” philosophy, as a rematch with a stipulation would increase anticipation.
A steel cage rematch between The Shield and The Usos for the championship is one example of a high-stakes stipulation match that could keep this feud moving forward.
If The Usos are able to defeat Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a steel cage, it would solidify them as the new top tag team in WWE while letting Reigns and Rollins move on to new challenges.
With The Usos as tag team champions, other tag teams will have the opportunity to challenge them and help the division to gain popularity.
Since The Usos are strictly a tag team and not a stable, like The Shield, they would be featured in more tag team matches. In turn, the WWE Tag Team Championship will become more of a focal point on WWE programming.
A high-profile feud with The Real Americans could provide a needed boost to the tag team division. Likewise, any feud that The Usos have with other established tag teams will help the division’s renown.
Many teams could challenge The Usos for the tag team title besides The Real Americans. Tons of Funk, The Prime Time Players and The Wyatt Family could challenge The Usos for the championship.
Also, many tag teams on NXT could be added to the main roster to challenge The Usos. NXT tag team champions Adrian Neville and Corey Graves, Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore, The Ascension, and Scott Dawson and Alexander Rusev are all NXT tag teams that could also face The Usos.
The tag team division can become an important aspect of WWE programming with all of the established tag teams in WWE and NXT.
With The Usos as WWE tag team champions, a direct link can be made by WWE through video packages to other great Samoan tag team champions like The Wild Samoans (Afa and Sika) and The Headshrinkers (Rikishi Fatu and Samu).
Also, The Usos are direct relatives of The Samoans and The Headshrinkers. Rikishi is the father of The Usos, Samu is their second cousin and The Wild Samoans are their great uncles.
The celebration of The Usos winning the championship would be special to watch. With three generations of tag team excellence, The Usos title win could be a celebration involving The Wild Samoans and The Headshrinkers.
The Usos could be the tag team that brings the division back to excellence. By being an established tag team, having exciting matches, garnering positive crowd reactions and having a family legacy behind them, The Usos should not only be the next WWE tag team champions, they should be the next great WWE tag team.
