Marcus Mariota Heisman Stock Stays Even With Performance vs. Cal
For Marcus Mariota the Oregon Ducks quarterback, Saturday night's 55-16 win over California was a testament to his team's explosiveness.
For Marcus Mariota the Heisman candidate, it was a missed opportunity to pad his resume. Despite the wide margin of victory and the absence of De'Anthony Thomas to steal any spotlight Mariota had a mediocre game statistically.
The super sophomore connected on just 11-of-25 passes for 114 yards, but was proficient with two touchdowns and no interceptions. With a massive lead throughout the game Mariota was able to account for 33 of the Ducks' 264 yards in the rushing department.
Few players are going to go out and light it up every single weekend. The fact that Mariota still ended up with three touchdowns and no turnovers on an "off" night could actually bolster his candidacy in the long run.
For now, it was a fairly underwhelming individual performance in a great game for the Ducks as a whole.
