Adam Hine Injury: Updates on BYU RB's Concussion, Likely Return Date
For the second time in as many weeks, BYU saw one of its running backs forced from the game with a scary head injury.
BYU Game Notes had the specifics via Twitter:
BYU sophomore running back/kick returner Adam Hine will not return to the game (suffered a concussion blocking on kick return at end of 1Q).— BYU Game Notes (@BYUGameNotes) September 28, 2013
UPDATE: Friday, Oct. 4
From KSL Radio's Greg Wrubell:
Bronco tells me Algie Brown will be the No. 2 RB tonight, behind Jamaal Williams. Adam Hine (concussion) out.— Greg Wrubell (@gregwrubell) October 4, 2013
This time around it was redshirt sophomore Adam Hine, who was injured on a kickoff against Middle Tennessee State at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Friday night.
The Desert News' Dick Harmon and The Salt Lake Tribune's Jay Drew had the initial news:
Adam Hine hurt on the kickoff. Lasike returns it to midfield. Hine not moving. Repeat of last week?— Dick Harmon (@Harmonwrites) September 28, 2013
Hine up and being helped off the field. Another scary moment for a Cougar running back.— Jay Drew (@drewjay) September 28, 2013
Just last week, leading Cougar rusher Jamaal Williams had to be stretched off the field with what turned out to be a concussion and severe stinger.
Hine, who had mostly been limited to kick-off returns through the first three games of the season, figured to see an increased amount of reps on Friday night, but the Cougars' string of bad luck continued with another frightening injury.
It was good, however, to see him walk off the field.
Hine had just one carry before his injury, but he once again proved to be a serious threat in the return game, returning BYU's opening kickoff 90 yards to set up a Taysom Hill touchdown run.
Entering the night, he had six kick returns for 152 yards and had seen a couple others—including a touchdown—called back on penalties.
