WWE Battleground 2013: Matches That Need to Be Included on Event Card
The inaugural WWE Battleground event takes place in less than two weeks from Buffalo, New York. Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan will compete in the main event with the vacated WWE title on the line.
In order to make the event a success from top to bottom, WWE needs to fill out the remainder of the card with solid matches that fit current storylines.
Here is a look at the current card for this event:
Vacant WWE Title Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Rob Van Dam vs. Alberto Del Rio (c)
CM Punk vs. Ryback
With that said, here is a look at four additional matches WWE should add to the event.
Divas Title: Natalya vs. AJ Lee
AJ Lee has held the Divas title for over three months now and has defended it successfully several times.
In her mission to be the top Diva in WWE, she has gone into a rivalry with the cast of Total Divas. AJ's attitude toward the Divas locker room has left many on her bad side.
Several challengers exist for the title as a result, including Brie Bella, who was able to pin AJ on Monday Night Raw in a 10-diva tag team match.
Natalya is the best option to face AJ, however. The two of them have had many matches in the past and it would set things up nicely for both women.
If Natalya wins, she would hold the Divas title when Total Divas returns to the E! network in November. If AJ retains, it gives her another solid title defense and furthers her claim that she is the best Diva the WWE has.
United States Title: Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose
Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose have been involved in an intense rivalry lately. They are scheduled to face each other this Friday night on SmackDown for the United States title.
Ziggler has fallen out of the main event scene, but defeating Ambrose for the U.S. title could vault him right back up the ladder.
Since the two have had many great matches against each other, a two out of three falls match at Battleground would make a lot of sense.
Tag Team Titles: Goldust and Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns
On Monday Night Raw, Cody Rhodes and Goldust resurfaced in WWE, attacking The Shield prior to their main event match.
While the Rhodes family has been strongly featured on WWE television as of late, Cody and Rhodes are not under WWE contract, according to the storyline.
That sets this match up perfectly because it could have more than just the titles on the line.
Perhaps their father, Dusty Rhodes, could bait Triple H or Stephanie McMahon into signing this match. If his sons win, not only do they win the titles, they get their jobs back as well.
If the match were signed, it would easily be one of the most intriguing on the entire card.
The Wyatt Family vs. Jimmy and Jey Uso
The WWE has done a great job rebuilding their tag team division. They can't stop now.
A match between two of their top tag teams makes sense for Battleground in order to keep the division in the forefront.
Luke Harper and Erick Rowan have been dominant since debuting in WWE. The Usos were able to survive in the handicap elimination match that headlined Monday Night Raw this week.
It would make for an interesting contest with positioning for a future tag team title shot up for grabs.
