The Redskins have the twenty-first overall pick this year in the draft. They hold a second round pick and two third round picks as well. Daniel Snyder and Vinny Cerrato have learned they need to build through the draft rather than through big name, high priced free agents.
Many people have come up with predictions for who the Skins will draft. Calais Campbell, Derrick Harvey, and Philip Merling are the choices at defensive end. Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas are the choices at wide receiver. Kenny Philips is an option at safety, and Branden Albert (UVA) could be picked if he drops to the 21st pick.
First thing is first, the Redskins need a defensive end to go alongside Andre Carter. They have a solid group of linebackers. The secondary is solid as well, but they may not be able to hold up with Shawn Springs having hit 33 and Carlos Rogers not starting at the beginning of the season. Is Reed Doughty the answer? He did a good job stepping in after the wake of Sean Taylor's death, but is he truly a starter? The Redskins need a pass rush to help out their secondary and to cover up the void left by Gregg Williams.
I say the Redskins draft Philip Merling out of Clemson. He's 6' 4", has a great motor and long arms, and he's good against the run, so you know he's versatile. In the second round the Redskins need to go after James Hardy, from Indiana, if he's still available. The kid is a freak. He's 6' 5" and can leap similar to Plaxico Burress. He may have to develop a little bit, but he's worth a second round pick. In the 3rd round the Redskins can pick up a cornerback and an offensive lineman.
Hopefully after the draft, the Redskins are able to implement their rookies and continue to build the team into a championship contender while making the playoffs.

Honestly, the Redskins could use strength just about everywhere except a few positions. Defensive back, defensive line, offensive line, receiver... I wouldn't mind the pick being used on any of those. Eh, I guess I wouldn't want another d-back picked. The thing about the defense is that Gregg and Joe were really good about making underachievers ratchet up their play. I'm a little bit concerned the defense will fall apart without them.
But I like the vibes Zorn is sending. He's showing patience and conservativeness. Showing these requires self-discipline that the Redskins, and many other teams, have not demonstrated. Only when you're already a contender should you go out on a limb and pick up flashy players like Randy Moss. I'm willing to go two years without making the playoffs if they make it for the five years after that. I'd much prefer that to the other way around.
I say the Redskins keep their copious amounts of draft picks and pick up some young substance to their roster. I certainly wouldn't put it past Snyder to make a splash by trying to nab Chris Long or something, but I'm hoping he continues this offseason's trend of patience.

I don't think Snyder would try to go and grab Chris Long. I think he may trade up a few picks if there is a player everyone is absolutely in love with and that we just HAVE to get.
