Everton have announced that there will be three choices available to fans as they select a new crest for the 2013/14 season, and have invited supporters to vote for their favourite.
The move follows a huge backlash on social networks to the current logo, redesigned for this season without consultation.
Everton have clearly learned from the experience. In an official statement on their website on Monday, they confirm that they have sought views from more than 20,000 fans before tinkering once more with the crest:
Through the surveys and focus groups that have taken place over the last few weeks, it is clear what is most important to include in the Club Crest.
The clear priorities of the majority of fans are inclusion of the Tower and Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.
In May 2013, the club had to issue an apology to fans after they changed the logo to a design most fans thought was overly simplified.
We have listened. Several meetings and countless discussions have taken place. And, we have reached a decision; a decision that starts with an apology.
We are sorry.
It is clear that you wanted to be involved in the selection of our new Club Crest. We agree with you and we are sorry we spoiled so many weekends.
Everton have also published an interesting historical image of the crests as they have evolved over the course of the club's history:
Interestingly, of those options, several have not featured the two aspects—the tower and the Latin motto—that the fans have deemed most important.
You can vote on the official website, but we also have an unofficial poll right here, so let us know which one you like best.
