Week 3 NFL Injury Updates: Sunday Morning Med Check
Welcome to the Week 3 edition of the Sunday Morning Med Check. There are a lot of game-time decisions today, including big names like Reggie Bush, Maurice Jones-Drew, Larry Fitzgerald, Rob Gronkowski, Marques Colston, Eddie Lacy and Vernon Davis.
Tyler Brooke and I will be here right up to kickoff to give you the most up-to-date injury and fantasy info as possible. Tyler will be watching the wires while I work the phones. We'll do our best to make sure you don't end up with any zeroes in your lineup, though what fun is it if there's not some risk?
A couple quick notes before we get into things. First, the NFL inactives list will come out 90 minutes before game time, both before the early and late games. We will definitely be discussing them, but for a complete list, go to this link.
Second, we'll get to as many questions as we can. Use the #BRFantasy hashtag and we'll get to the best ones here or on Fantasy Live, which will air from 12-1 Eastern right here on Bleacher Report.
Until then, read the game notes on each and every game today, which will be at the bottom of the liveblog. Thanks again for being part of the Med Check!
That'll do it for the Sunday Morning Med Check for Week 3. Thank you to everyone for checking in and asking questions. From Will and myself, have a good one, and enjoy another great NFL Sunday.
#Chargers inactive list initially listed Tourek Williams inactive & Donald Butler active. Late change disallowed. So Williams inactive.— UTKevinAcee (@UTKevinAcee) September 22, 2013
Interesting turn of events last-minute before kickoff. Donald Butler was switched to the inactive list, but it wasn't allowed. So the Chargers will have Tourek Williams inactive, and that means a waste of a spot. -TB
While Will Carroll is on the B/R Fantasy show, he reports that Vernon Davis is a "true game-time decision", but his sources are saying that Davis should be able to play. It's difficult to judge as a late-game decision, so have another late-time backup in the event that Davis can't go. -TB
Brandon Myers has a wrap on his right elbow during warmups.— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) September 22, 2013
Likely not a big deal, but Tom Rock is noting that Giants TE Brandon Myers has his right elbow wrapped. Something to watch for once the game begins. -TB
Aldon Smith could enter rehab facility as soon as this week http://t.co/LKFQQidaK0— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) September 22, 2013
There was concern whether or not Aldon Smith would play, but it looks like he will be. He will be entering rehab, possibly this week. With him playing, the Colts' offensive line could struggle to keep the pressure off of Luck. -TB
@TylerDBrooke Hello I need 2 out of 4 between, Ridley, L. Miller or J. Rodgers. Thank you in advance— kenneth m carabante (@Kenneth_car) September 22, 2013
Go with Ridley and Lamar Miller. Miller is going to break out one of these games, and Ridley has a chance to make some plays as the Bucs focus on the passing game. -TB
@injuryexpert with Bush out as rb2, do I go with Starks or Mendenhall?— Ryan Hedreen (@RyanUNC) September 22, 2013
Start Starks. With Lacy inactive today, Starks is going to be the go-to guy getting the majority of carries. He likely won't put up 100+ yards again today, but he will get points solely off of volume. -TB
@injuryexpert Best out of Ivory, M Ball, R White & V Brown? Rice & Lacy out for me today.— Dane Roper (@sorope) September 22, 2013
Roddy White should be the guy. Others have pretty limited roles. Don't expect a huge game from him going against the Dolphins' secondary, but he should be better than the others. -TB
Last-minute change to Chargers inactives -- and a big one: Inside linebacker Donald Butler (groin) listed as out for today's game.— Michael Gehlken (@UTgehlken) September 22, 2013
Big news coming out of San Diego. Donald Butler is going to be out for the Chargers. This could mean some more open lanes for Chris Johnson to run through for the Titans. -TB
Looking for a last minute RB given all the injuries and you don't have a Joique Bell or a Bernard Pierce anywhere? My pals at 4for4.com like David Wilson today, as well as Pierre Thomas. Have to agree with them.
At TE, if you're looking for help with Vernon Davis a big question mark, they like both Bengals TEs (Tyler Eifert and Jermaine Gresham) and also think Charles Clay could be a sneaky start.
Check 'em out. Smart guys over there.
Tom Brady is going against an improved secondary without his two big weapons. Meanwhile, Eli is going to be going in against a questionable Panthers' secondary. As many turnovers as Eli has, he'll still have a big game this week. -TB
Saints RB Mark Ingram is inactive.— Larry Holder (@LarryHolder) September 22, 2013
Mark Ingram won't be playing for the Saints. This means more of Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles this week. -TB
Bunch of official inactives that will affect lineups.
IN: Larry Fitzgerald, Rashard Mendenhall
OUT: Eddie Lacy, Rob Gronkowksi, Fred Davis
Packers Inactives: Bush, Lacy, Kuhn, Burnett, Taylor and Boyd— Bill Michaels (@Bill_Michaels) September 22, 2013
Eddie Lacy is officially inactive for Packers. For those of you with James Starks, he's a definite start for this week. -TB
Davis, Forbath, Gumbs, Grossman, Royster, Baker, LeRibeus inactive.— Mike Jones (@MikeJonesWaPo) September 22, 2013
Official that Fred Davis won't play for the Redskins. Look elsewhere for your starting tight end this week. -TB
Waiting on official inactives, but a very good source just told me Reggie Bush's workout this morning was unconvincing and that he is unlikely to play today.
We are approaching 11:30 a.m. and that means the inactive lists will start coming in. We're preparing for the official lists, but won't be covering all of them. We will focus on any of the key inactives with key players. Get ready. -TB
Kai Forbath is out again this week for Washington, but I will remind you—he's a kicker. Kickers should either be picked and forgotten based on the offensive characteristics of their team or streamed. Yes, I'm one of the people who think kickers should not be a part of fantasy football.
A lot of you are asking about Vernon Davis. He's got a great matchup today, especially with Laron Landry out for the Colts, but the hamstring injury has him as that worst of fantasy things, the late game GTD.
I've been calling around, but this looks like a true GTD. Davis is going to get some treatment and go out and do some drills with the coaching and medical staff looking on. His go-status will come off of that, so think of this much like you did with Larry Fitzgerald this week and last week. Even if he plays, there's a risk he misses targets or leaves the game early.
Vance McDonald is a bit of a speculative play, so you might be better off pairing Davis with a late game TE, perhaps Coby Fleener or Heath Miller, who returns for Pittsburgh this week.
Dolphins WR Mike Wallace (groin) will play today, two team sources tell me. "He's fine," one source says.— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) September 22, 2013
Wallace will play today according to Darlington. Big news for fantasy owners, and if he really is fine like one of the sources say, he could put up big numbers against that struggling Falcons' secondary. -TB
