Colin Kapernick's Fantasy Trade Value, Updated Outlook After Week 3
For the second week in a row, Colin Kaepernick struggled to make plays, making fantasy football owners across the nation groan with crushed expectations.
The San Francisco 49ers star quarterback looked more like a befuddled rookie on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts than a guy who led his team to the Super Bowl last year.
He completed less than half his passes for just 150 yards without throwing a touchdown, and he turned the ball over twice—once on an interception and once on a lost fumble. Making matters worse for fantasy owners, Kaepernick was able to rush for just 20 yards on seven carries.
After getting humiliated by the Seattle Seahawks a week ago, the former star from Nevada needs a revival, and some fantasy owners are likely considering trading him away—or at least sitting him on the bench in Week 4.
Both moves would be foolish, however.
As bad as Kaepernick has been, it can't get any worse.
He played on Sunday without Vernon Davis, who sat out with a hamstring injury, and the team is extremely thin at the wide receiver position while Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham remain out with injuries of their own.
The 49ers face the St. Louis Rams on Thursday Night Football in Week 4, and the Rams haven't been able to stop opponents from scoring through the air this year, allowing seven touchdowns in three games.
Kaepernick will be just fine long term. He's going through the roughest patch of his career, but Jim Harbaugh will get him straightened out in short order.
