Miguel Cabrera Injury: Updates on Tigers Star's Groin, Likely Return Date
Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera left Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox due to a groin injury. Cabrera has been plagued by abdominal and groin trouble all season, so this is a troubling development for the Tigers as they head towards the postseason.
The Tigers' official Twitter account broke the news:
Miguel Cabrera left tonight's game with soreness in the groin area and is listed as day-to-day. #Tigers— Detroit Tigers (@tigers) September 22, 2013

Jason Beck of MLB.com passes along today's lineup for the Tigers, confirming Miguel Cabrera will not play:

Jim Leyland on Miguel Cabrera's injury: "I don't think it's too good."— Chris Iott (@Chris_Iott) September 22, 2013
Cabrera's injury is a huge blow for the Tigers, as he was batting .346 and had just notched his 44th home run of the year last Tuesday in a win over the Seattle Mariners. Don Kelly took over duties for Cabrera at third base to start the 10th inning.
The injury could not come at a worse time with the season beginning to wind down and Detroit attempting to hold off the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central, who sit just 5.5 games back.
This is simply the latest in a rash of injuries that have struck Cabrera as of late. Earlier this month, the star slugger missed time with an abdomen issue. Expect Cabrera to miss some time as the Tigers prepare to make a serious push and want to preserve his strength.
