Winnipeg Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec wasn’t the starting goalie on Thursday, and somebody wasn’t too happy about the decision.
Bianca, a young Winnipeg Jets fan (as stated in the description of the video), is a big fan of Pavelec. When she found out Al Montoya was starting over him in a preseason matchup against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, she didn’t take kindly to the news.
Preseason or not, Pavelec should be starting every game! And she didn’t want to hear otherwise.
Even the others in the video tried to convince her that Montoya is a good Jet, too, but she wouldn’t hear any of it. She wanted to see her favorite Jet in net.
Bianca would get along with the Jets head coach Claude Noel. I’m pretty sure both of them would want Pavelec starting in all 82 games if that were possible. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for many other Jets fans.
The irony of the video is that there are a lot of Jets fans who are probably just as sad when they find out that Pavelec is starting. There’s a lot of pressure on Pavelec, and he takes a lot of heat from fans for lack of production.
In a major hockey market such as Winnipeg, the starting goalie is always going to take heat for not performing up to standards. But even Pavelec remains a fan favorite. The “Pavy Pavy” chants fill up the MTS center each game.
This video is just an example of how passionate Jets fans are. The Winnipeg fans are started off early and grow up to be some of the best fans in sports.
As for Pavelec, he’ll probably get the nod close to 70 times. Bianca won’t be disappointed too much this season. Hopefully the same can be said for other Jets fans.
